The UK has been slow to accept even a small number of refugees, and while the international community is calling on Iraq¹s neighbours to keep their borders open to people, the UK is responding by making it increasingly difficult for asylum seekers but despite this, many refugees still make the arduous journey to the UK. Given the government¹s active role in Iraq the Scottish Refugee Council says the UK has a responsibility to take more asylum seekers, and to stop returning Iraqis to a country that is "blatantly unsafe".
